Community Issues - Parkway House
Invitation to the April 1, 2010 public meeting from Parkway House
Notice to Neighbours regarding a
Public Meeting
To discuss the future of
Parkway House
When: 7 pm Thursday April 1, 2010
Where: Ron Kolbus-Lakeside Centre
(in Britannia Park)
Dear neighbours:
As you may know, Parkway House is a group home for physically-challenged people who need care. Parkway House is located at the eastern end of Regina Avenue, overlooking the Ottawa River Parkway.
For a number of years, Parkway House has been facing the strain of inadequate funding to meet the needs of its residents. To avoid a financial crisis that could lead to the closure of Parkway House, the Board of Directors of Parkway House has been seeking a means of securing sufficient income to keep the residence going. Parkway House has partnered with Windmill Developments and Safe Housing Ottawa to develop a proposal that would keep Parkway House going through developing the land that Parkway House is on. That development would involve a re-zoning to permit a condominium tower.
However, the City of Ottawa has a covenant on the title of the Parkway House land that restricts the ability of Parkway House to sell or re-develop this land without City of Ottawa permission. We intend to request the City of Ottawa to allow us to develop this land, so that we can keep Parkway House going for its residents.
Please join us on Thursday April 1 at 7 pm at the Ron Kolbus-Lakeside Centre (in Britannia Park) to hear our proposal and discuss the implications.
James McLaren
President, Board of Directors, Parkway House
